Do I need any skill to use it?+

No — that's the whole point. With a whetstone you have to hold a consistent angle by hand, which takes real practice. Here the magnet holds the angle for you, so all you do is roll. Most people get a sharp edge on their first knife.

Which angle should I use?+

15° for Japanese and thin-bladed knives — a finer, keener edge.
20° for European and everyday kitchen knives — tougher and longer-lasting.

Will it work on serrated or bread knives?+

No. It's designed for straight edges only. Serrated knives, scissors and ceramic blades need different tools entirely. We'd rather say so plainly than have you order the wrong thing.

Can it damage an expensive knife?+

Used as instructed, no — the fixed angle is exactly what protects a good blade. The thing that ruins expensive knives is a pull-through sharpener grinding at whatever angle the slot happens to be. Use light pressure and let the disc do the work.

How long does one knife take?+

Around a minute for a knife that's dulled with normal use — about 30 seconds on the diamond disc and 20 on the ceramic. A badly neglected knife may need a few more passes the first time.

How often should I sharpen?+

For a home kitchen, every one to three months on the knives you use daily. A quick pass on the ceramic disc between full sharpenings keeps the edge keen for much longer.

Do the discs wear out?+

Eventually, but not quickly — with normal home use they last years. Replacement discs are available if you ever need them. Wipe them clean after use and keep them dry.

Is it safe to use?+

The knife lies flat and held on the base rather than being waved about, which is safer than freehand sharpening. Still — keep fingers clear of the edge, work on a stable surface, and keep it away from children. A sharpened knife is sharper than you expect.
